How to Use WCF Service?

 In this note, we demonstrate how to use WCF service with 5 parts:

Part A. Create a WCF profile.

Part B. Block all LAN clients.

Part C. Block certain LAN clients with User Management and Bind IP to MAC (for both single and multi-LAN users).

Part D. Block certain LAN clients with multi-LANs (for multi-LANs users).

Part E. Trouble Shooting. 

A. Create a WCF profile

  1. Go to CSM >> Web Content Filter to set the WCF profile. Click Index 1 to set the configurations, and click OK to apply the settings.

B. Block all LAN clients

  1. Go to the Firewall >> General Setup to set Default rule, and click OK to apply the settings.

  1. Once the settings are finished, visit a website that matches the category to see this blocking message.

C. Block certain LAN clients with User Management and Bind IP to MAC (for both single and multi-LAN users).

  1. In this part, we reserve the address 192.168.1.10~192.168.1.19 for parents, and WCF will filter LAN clients starting from 192.168.1.20. Go to LAN >> General Setup to set Start IP Address to 192.168.1.20, and click OK to apply the settings.

  1. Go to LAN >> Bind IP to MAC to enable this feature. Find the MAC addresses for parents’ devices, and set the IP Address within 192.168.1.10~192.168.1.19. Click OK to apply the settings.

    1. Select the device with correct MAC address from ARP Table.

    2. Select the device with correct MAC address from IP Bind List.

Note: After user set Bind IP to MAC. Please reconnect to the router to release DHCP IP in order to get the Bind IP.

  1. Go to User Management >> User Profile to create a profile for parents, and click OK to apply the settings.

  1. Create another profile for child, and click OK to apply the settings.

  1. Go to Firewall >> Filter Setup >> Default Data Filter, and click Index 2 to set firewall rule.

  1. Create a firewall rule for parents (here we set the rule in Filter Set 2 Rule 2), and click OK to apply the settings.

    1. Enter the Comments.

    2. Set Direction, and click Edit to set Source IP range. Set IP range and click OK to apply settings.

  1. Create another firewall rule for child, and click OK to apply the settings.

  1. After adjusting settings, users will be asked to log in when accessing the Internet.

  1. A pop-up window shows the login status and remaining time.

  1. Once the settings are finished, visit a website that matches the category to see this blocking message.

D. Block certain LAN clients with multi-LANs (for multi-LANs users)

  1. Go to LAN >> VLAN to set Subnet, and click OK to apply settings. In this note, we take Wi-Fi connection as an example.

  1. Go to Wireless LAN >> General Setup to set LAN2 SSID, and click OK to apply settings.

  1. Go to Wireless LAN >> Security Settings to set password of SSID2, and click OK to apply settings.

  1. Set configurations of Filter Set 2 Rule 2, and click OK to apply settings.

  1. Once the settings are finished, visit a website that matches the category to see this blocking message.

E. Trouble Shooting

  1. Tick Syslog when setting configurations for Filter Rule, and click OK to apply settings.

  1. The Syslog will show the clients' access record.

  • [Block] stands for router blocks this access.

  • [Service_Provider=CommTouch] stands for this access is blocked by CommTouch License.

  • [Category=Nudity] stands for the category of blocking website.

  • [@S:R=2:2] stands for that router was using Set 2 Rule 2 to block the website.

  • [192.168.2.10:1709] stands for which IP address tried to access the website.

  • [ http://playboy.com:80] stands for what website was blocked
